What is Spyware:
In general terms it is any software that gathers user information through the user's Internet connection without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes but can also change the settings of your computer, use computer processing capacity without permission, and deliver spam or ads without consumer's notice and consent and can be very hard to remove.
Spyware applications are typically bundled as a hidden component of freeware or shareware programs that can be downloaded from the Internet; however, it should be noted that the majority of shareware and freeware applications do not come with spyware. Spyware can also be installed on your computer with out your knowledge just by surfing the net or from web pages.
Once installed, the spyware monitors user activity on the Internet and transmits that information in the background to someone else. Spyware can also gather information about e-mail addresses and even passwords and credit card numbers.
Spyware is potentially a more dangerous beast than Adware. With all this in mind it will also slow down the general running of your computer.
